Peter Ralston and Philip Conkling are pleased to announce the creation of PAIRINGS, a collection of 20 of Peter’s photographs paired with 20 of Philip’s poems, spanning the entirety of their working life together.

Thirty-five years ago, Peter Ralston and Philip Conkling first met while working on Allen Island off Port Clyde Maine, where they first began their collaboration as  photographer and writer. A few years later they co-founded  the Island Institute and launched the now classic publication Island Journal, to which Ralston contributed his iconic photographs and Conkling his writing and poetry ever since.

Their unique collection of 20 paired photographs and poems  is a limited edition of 35 signed and numbered sets—one for each of their years together—plus five artists’ proofs—contained in a  specially designed handcrafted box to enhance and protect the pairings, while adding significantly to the quality of the whole. Each pair of poems and images is suitable for framing and each pairing is presented in its own folio.

All production elements meet the most exacting museum archival standards for stability. Certificates of Authenticity accompany each individual paired folio as well as for the entire collection. Pairings may be seen and purchased at Ralston Gallery.
